7 Ways You Are Blessed by Studying Revelation

Jesus revelation blessings

My name is Adam and this is my very first blog post exploring the last book of the Bible, Revelation. I have been a student of Revelation and The Bible for many years now and it is my passion to share it with the world. So let’s get into it.

In Revelation 1:3 it says, “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep the things which are written in it; for the time is near.”

What a promise, we are blessed if we read, hear and keep the things written Revelation and I can tell you, the more I learn about the book of Revelation, the more blessed I am. Because 7 is a special number in Revelation, I have come up with seven ways my life has been blessed by studying Revelation over the years and I want to share them with you now.

  1. Jesus reveals things you won’t find anywhere else in the Bible.

We will see things about the future that we won’t see anywhere else in the Bible and Jesus also gives us insight into the work He is doing after ascending to heaven. All throughout the Old Testament we find instruction regarding the earthly sanctuary and later the temple. These things were a copy of the heavenly sanctuary as we are told in Hebrews.

“For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.” Hebrews 9:24.

Revelation gives us insight into the heavenly sanctuary. You will discover how the services of the earthly sanctuary were in fact a prophecy which has been fulfilling from the crucifixion of Jesus right up to our day and beyond. Between prophecies foretelling the future and insight into Jesus’ work in the heavenly sanctuary, you will find things in Revelation that won’t be found anywhere else in the Bible.

  1. You will learn more about the rest of the Bible.

Two thirds of Revelation is imagery from the Old Testament. It doesn’t quote the Old Testament directly but has allusions to stories and situations from other parts of the Bible. In order to understand Revelation correctly, we study the story it is alluding to.

Isaiah 28:10 says, “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.”

The instruction Isaiah is giving us here is when you want to study a topic or teaching within the Bible, you compare it with all the books of the Bible, lining it up, through Scripture so you will be certain as to what it is saying. To properly understand Revelation you must study this way.

God made this prediction through the prophet Daniel at the end of his book:

“But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” Daniel 12:4

Although this describes our physical world today with travel and the explosion of knowledge due to scientific discovery. It’s original intention is running to and fro through the Scriptures and an increase of Bible knowledge. Daniel was a sealed book until the time of the end, meaning it could not be understood but since this time all of Daniels prophecies have been understood and Revelation has shed even more light on these prophecies and in order to understand Revelation correctly we must have a knowledge of Daniel’s prophecies. The two books can’t be separated.

You can be sure that once you start to study the book of Revelation correctly, you will learn more about the rest of the Bible as you do.

  1. You will have increased faith in the Bible by seeing how history has fulfilled prophecy.

It was Jesus who said,

“And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.” John 14:29

Studying Bible prophecy gives us an experience of faith we will not get anywhere else. The Bible is a book that foretells events so accurately that people ignore it at their own peril. We must pay attention to Bible prophecy, we cannot afford to ignore it. What is really fascinating is that the last book of the Bible, Revelation was written, historically around 91AD. But prophetically, the Bible is still being written.

If we look down into time we can see that all the books of the Bible were recorded between 1400 BC - 91AD. But while the writing of the Bible ends, it actually continues telling the story. Revelation tells history in advance through a number of prophetic timelines that begin at the time it was written and carried on through the ages to the second coming of Jesus and beyond to the restoration of planet earth.

When you study into these prophecies you will see history fulfilled with 100% accuracy and this will increase your faith in the Bible and of course the author of the Bible, Jesus.

  1. You will have confidence that God is in control by understanding the future.

Our planet is going through some very serious issues at this point in time. Through radical changes in the weather patterns, global warming, political unrest, a global pandemic with Covid19, increase of earthquakes and all sorts of other challenges, it’s easy to get discouraged and pessimistic about the future.

When we study Revelation we see that these things must come. They are signs that were foretold in the Bible and they tell us that Jesus second coming is very near.

This gives us confidence that despite the problems, God is in control and whatever happens to you and your family, it’s going to be ok. God’s got it under control.

  1. Your intelligence will increase by decoding the symbolism.

Researchers have shown that when the human brain is put to work to solve complex problems, intelligence is increased. By getting a grasp of the symbolism and prophetic timelines you are exercising your brain in this same problem solving manner. And not to mention you are also grasping divine concepts so your intelligence is definitely increasing.

  1. You will see Jesus in a way you have never seen Him before.

Revelation is referred to in chapter 1:2 as ‘the testimony of Jesus’ and all throughout Revelation we get some amazing pictures of Jesus.

From a description of His physical presence in chapter 1, the continual reference to Himself as the first and the last, the beginning and the end, to His love for His church, His entry into the throne room of heaven, to little insightful nuggets as this one in chapter 13:8 “...of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Jesus is seen like never before. He is seen as a sacrificial Lamb and He is seen as an all-conquering Lion. In Revelation Jesus reveals His uniqueness and its in a way you will not see anywhere else in the Bible

  1. By studying Revelation your life will be transformed.

We cannot understand Revelation without the help of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus calls Him the Helper.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26

And then:

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement.” John 16:7,8.

When you approach Revelation, like you do the rest of the Bible in a humble, teachable attitude, the Holy Spirit will come into you and bring with Him the wonderful riches of God’s grace. You will experience His converting power and the peace of mind that transforms the life.

23 years ago I was attending church and I wanted to change but there were some habits that had a huge hold on me and I couldn’t seem to break them. Going to church alone just couldn’t do it for me.

I started studying the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation and was fascinated with them. The more I studied, the greater my desire for Christ became. Through the power of the Holy Spirit accompanying my Bible study and the loveliness of Jesus character my soul was drawn to Him and I became converted.

Those things that I was struggling with were not a struggle anymore, they just fell away from my life as the presence of God made His home there. And you can experience the same victory I did by studying His word and receiving the wonderful blessings that come with its study. By studying Revelation properly, in the right spirit, you can guarantee, your life will be changed.

So there you have it. 7 ways you will be blessed by studying the book of Revelation.

I want to share with you today this beautiful book called, ‘Ancient Words, Present Hope: What the Old Testament teaches us about Revelation, by Kayle B. De Waal.

 Understanding Revelation

The Apostle John was the author of Revelation and not only was he a disciple of Jesus, but an avid Bible student. The Bible John had and learnt was the Old Testament so it is only natural that he would draw back on what he knew to help describe what Jesus was showing him about the future. That is the reason we see Revelation flooded with Old Testament imagery. In this book, the author helps us understand how the Old Testament was used and assists us in the discovery of what John is trying to teach us about Jesus and His plan for His people throughout the ages.

Here is an example from page 10 of the book.
